The Faculty of Education at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) is currently accepting applications to gain admission into their Short Learning Programme on Postgraduate Research Supervision.

PURPOSE

The overall purpose of the programme is to contribute to the further professionalisation of academic staff by developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required for supervising postgraduate students to successful completion of their studies.

The programme consists of seven modules of which six should be completed for the diploma. They are: Postgraduate Research Supervision (compulsory), Academic Literacies in Research Supervision, Research Ethics in Postgraduate Supervision, Assessment of Postgraduate Research, Supervision of Qualitative Research Design, Supervision of Quantitative Research Design, and Current and Emerging Issues in Postgraduate Supervision.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

To gain admission into the Postgraduate Diploma in Research Supervision, an applicant should:

a) possess at least a Master’s degree or equivalent (at NQF level 9) AND

b) have had a minimum of two years’ experience of at least honours-level research supervision and assessment at the time of registration

OR

c) have commensurate appropriate Higher Education experience such as a PhD.

Additional selection criteria:

(a) a written submission outlining work experience; and

(b) motivation for entry into the programme.

APPLICATION

UJ’s 2021 application cycle opened on 1 April 2020 and will close on 15 February 2021.

No applications by email or fax are accepted. Applicants wanting to submit a hardcopy application form can submit their application form at any of the four UJ campuses or the application can be sent via post to the university.

  • Follow the prompts for applying online either as a new applicant or returning/internal applicant.

FEES

Total cost of the programme is approximately R35 460*.

Academic programme fee calculation is based on R5 910 per module by six modules = R35 460.

Please note that UJ staff receive a study concession. Applications for remission of tuition fees are processed through the Human Resources Division.

*Price is based on 2020 figures. There will be a cost adjustment in accordance with the 2021 university course charges.
