The School of Built Environment & Development Studies (SOBEDS) at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (UKZN) will be hosting an online colloquium this month. Touching on a number of different themes, the presenters will explore how to bridge the oppressive divide between the Humanities, Arts and Technology and move towards an interdisciplinary curriculum that fosters transformation.

  • Critique of dominant modes of curricula, pedagogies and practice.
  • Pedagogic exclusion – exclusion of lived experiences, diversity and alternative learning systems.
  • The impact of dominant modes of education and practice on the transformation of the built environment – socio-economic redress and spatial transformation of historically disadvantaged communities.
