The Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is a newly established University providing holistic Health Sciences Education, and is situated at Ga-Rankuwa (North of Pretoria). The SMU’s Centre for University Teaching and Learning (CUTL) wishes to invite applications for the following four (4) positions:

 

MANAGER: STUDENT ACADEMIC SUPPORT (Reference number: 54/2020/BM/P7)

The incumbent will be responsible for actively supporting the Director in meeting the strategic objectives and goals of the CUTL through developing, implementing and managing student academic development and support programmes, student development and leadership skills projects and other initiatives that aim to enhance student success and experience at SMU.

Requirements:

  • PhD/Doctoral degree in Education/Counselling Psychology or equivalent
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in the management of student counselling and support services, student academic development programs and tracking and monitoring of at-risk students
  • Computer skills (MS Office suite)

INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER (Reference number: 56/2020BGM/P8)

The incumbent will be responsible for the development of e-learning resource materials and implementation of new learning technologies, within an appropriate pedagogical framework and in consultation with relevant other stakeholders. The incumbent will report to the Manager: Teaching Development Unit.

Requirements:

  • Relevant Master’s degree in Education (E-Learning and/or Innovative teaching technologies/Multimedia design) or equivalent
  • At least two (2) years’ experience as an Instructional Designer in the higher education sector (in Health Sciences/Professions disciplines/ Education / Science Education will be an advantage)
  • Expert knowledge of teaching and learning, digital learning theory and best practices in E-learning

The incumbent will be responsible for the development, implementation, impact measurement and monitoring and evaluation of E-learning activities at SMU which assists the E-Learning Unit in achieving its strategic objectives and goals. The incumbent will report to the Manager: E-Learning Unit.

Requirements:

  • Relevant Master’s degree in Education (E-Learning and/or Innovative teaching technologies / Multimedia design) or equivalent
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of Elearning strategies, methodologies and technologies
  • Experience in the use of learning management systems and instructional design

  • Train students on the use of the learning management system
  • Coordinate and initiate peer and student evaluation of E-learning activities
  • Research, develop and implement best practices with regards to E-learning
  • Contribute to educational research and scholarship activities

The incumbents will be responsible for the academic staff development activities within the institution with respect to teaching and learning, curriculum practices including monitoring and evaluation of curriculum implementation, academic and program evaluation as well as the scholarship of teaching and learning. The positions are based within the Teaching Development Unit with a mandate to assist SMU in achieving its mission, vision, and strategic objectives. The incumbents will report to the Manager: Teaching Development Unit.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Health Professions/Sciences Education and/or Education
  • At least two (2) years previous experience as an academic development practitioner in the
    higher education sector
  • Experience of teaching within the higher education sector
  • Expert knowledge of teaching and learning, curriculum development, assessment and reflective practice within the higher education sector with a focus on conceptualizing, designing and delivering professional learning opportunities to academic staff
  • Experience with E-learning and learning management systems
